Eight students receive summer research fellowships
Eight students have been awarded Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships, the Office of Undergraduate Research at ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ announced.
Seven proposals were selected from a field of 31 proposals for summer research. The Fellowships include a stipend for student and mentors, as well as research support.
Receiving fellowships are:
Kristi Barnes, of Silsbee, speech and hearing sciences, for “The Development and Analysis of Accessible and Appropriate Adult Aural Rehabilitation Intervention Materials,” with faculty mentor Assistant Professor Ashley Dockens.
Tristen Harris, of Buna, electrical engineering, for “Using Autonomous Robots to Track Invasion Species,” with faculty mentors Professor Harley Myler and Assistant Professor Hassan Zargarzadeh.
Hung (Justin) Ho, Houston, mechanical engineering, for “Modified Power Plant Solid Waste ((Fly Ash) for Absorption of CO?” with Assistant Professor Ramesh Guduru.
Lukas Moravits, Beaumont, and Mitchell Davis, Sour Lake, electrical engineering, for “Building bi-directional Silicon Carbide Space Matrix Converter for Controlling Electric Machines,” with Assistant Professor Reza Barzegaran.
Luke Placette, Bridge City, mechanical engineering, for “Modeling the Mechanical Properties of Carbon Nanotube Composites,” with Professor Xuejun Fan.
Jennifer Watters, Silsbee, chemical engineering, for “Developing Photo-catalysts for Converting Waste Carbon Dioxide into Saleable Products,” with Assistant Professor Tracy Benson.
William Wheeler, Beaumont, sociology, for “Virtual Relations,” with Assistant Professor Jesus Garcia.
The Office of Undergraduate Research creates, facilitates and enhances opportunities for students interested in conducting undergraduate research. The office allows undergraduates to make a difference in their fields and form strong mentor relationships with faculty members in their respective disciplines.
The Office of Undergraduate Research is a resource for all undergraduates in all majors on ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Campus, seeking to enrich their undergraduate experiences through participation in research, scholarship and creative activity. The Office helps students find and develop opportunities to engage in collaborative research with faculty members and other mentors amongst the campuses academic disciplines. The Office provides funding opportunities for student research and scholarship through a range of programs.
