Free MyPD app offers quick connection, information

Remembering the number to call to reach ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ’s police in an emergency can be challenging — it’s 880-8311— but if you’ve downloaded the MyPD app you’ll have that number, and a whole lot more, in the palm of your hand.

Screenshot of ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ MyPD appThe new App for faculty, staff, students and visitors is named My Police Department, or MyPD for short, and it’s a free download for Android or iPhones.

Once downloaded, you can use the App to call LUPD Dispatch, submit tips, ask questions, commend an officer, and find information that can help keep you safe.

“Submit a Tip” is an easy way to report on suspicious, nuisance or criminal activity to the police so they can follow up. If it’s a real emergency, contact the department (that number again: 880-8311) or dial 911 (you will get LUPD this way, but it adds an extra step that could delay response).

Who doesn’t like to hear that they’re doing a good job? If someone in the police department has gone above and beyond, use the app’s “Commend an Officer” feature. And while we’re on that topic – use the app to tell us where we need to improve as well through the “Questions & Feedback” link. If you don’t want to leave a name (though we hope you will, so we can follow up or get clarification) you can always remain anonymous.

The App includes links to crime statistics, bus route information, department contacts, news and alerts, sex offender lists and more.

To download MyPD go to the Android or iPhone Store and search for “MyPD.” After you download the App, open and choose “¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Police.” Here you can choose if you want to receive alerts.  Now you’re set – MyPD will open each time to LUPD.
