LU noted as a ‘Rising Star’ in UK study

Times Higher Education and World University Rankings have identified ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ as one of 20 universities worldwide and one of just nine nationally that could “challenge the elite universities” and become globally renowned by 2030.

A study conducted by Firetail, a strategy consulting firm in Great Britain that works with some of the world’s most outstanding universities, research organizations and civil society groups, identified a “Class of 2030” that consisted of an emerging group of “challenger” universities that are quickly rising in the world rankings and “have an opportunity to become globally renowned in the next 10 to 20 years.”  According to the report featured by Times Higher Education and World University Rankings, the rising “Class of 2030” is positioned to balance long-term vision with short-term execution, linked together by strong management and culture.

The balance of long-term vision with short-term execution of strategy has characterized Lamar. The "Rising Stars" of U.S. universities listed is impressive: Baylor University, Hofstra University, Boise State University, California State University, California Polytechnic State University, Louisiana Tech University, Nova Southeastern University, Fairfield University and ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ were among the U.S. institutions cited in the study.

Rapidly improving universities that are seeking to capitalize on global trends in higher education are set to shake up the university “establishment” in the next decade and beyond, according to a report.

The Firetail study titled “Class of 2030: Which Universities Will Rise – And How Will They Do It?,” identified 346 institutions as potential candidates for the class of 2030, but stressed that only those universities that sustain their improvement over the next 15 years will become globally influential. The study focused specifically on 20 universities that have jumped more than 250 places in the URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) rankings since 2010-11.

It also considers the environment in which a university is located, taking into account the number of foreign students as a proportion of local students in the country; the proportion of gross domestic product spent on research and development; and the country’s university enrollment rate.
