LU hosts International Education Week
¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ will celebrate International Education Week though a variety of multicultural activities promoting this year’s theme, “Connecting Texas to the Americas and Beyond,” November 13-17. All events are free and open to the public.
“We are lucky to live in a very international state and study on a very global campus,” said Jeffrey Palis, director of global studies and study abroad. “Our corner of Texas is connected to the rest of the world through commerce, technology, educational exchange, the movement of people, and the celebration and preservation of our diverse cultures. We hope to express that theme through the voices of our students who themselves have connected with the world while studying at LU.”
On November 13, students will learn about opportunities to study French in Canada at 2 p.m. in the Mary and John Gray Library, room 702. Later, a panel discussion titled “DACA: Understanding and Protecting a Unique Component of ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Diversity” will take place at 7 p.m. in the Landes Auditorium in the Galloway Business Building.
Mahdi Safa, assistant professor in the Reese Construction Management Program in the College of Business will present “Charting the Canal: Student & Faculty Research from Study Abroad in Panama” on November 14 at 2:30 p.m. in Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship, room 113B.
The Reaud Honors College will host Cardinals Return Home, a student panel on the study abroad experience, on November 15 at 3 p.m. in the Reaud Administration Building, Executive Event Room. Later, the film Tlatelolco - Verano del 68 will be presented by Miguel Chavez, assistant professor of history, at 6:35 p.m. in the communication building, room 103.
The week concludes with the Lamar Language Fair on November 16 at noon in front of the library.
