Reaud Honors College Dean Kevin Dodson honored with scholarship endowment

Kevin DodsonPhi Kappa Phi recently honored ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Reaud Honors College Dean Kevin Dodson when it endowed a new scholarship in recognition of his service to the university.

The Dr. Kevin Dodson/Phi Kappa Phi Endowment was established in the ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Foundation with a gift of $22,000. Distributions from the endowed fund will be used to further the mission of the organization as the are awarded annually to support LU students or faculty members of Phi Kappa Phi based on the merits and purpose of the national organization.

Dodson is the founding dean of the Reaud Honors College at LU where he has taught philosophy since 1991 and holds the rank of professor.

He attended the University of Washington, where he graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in philosophy and was accepted into the UW chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Dodson went on to study philosophy at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, completing his Ph.D. in 1991. Since then, he has served as an officer in several professional organizations.

His scholarship has focused on the history of modern philosophy, moral and political theory, and the philosophy of history. He has received support for his work from the German Academic Exchange Service and the National Endowment for the Humanities. His work is well published and he has presented scholarly papers at both national conferences and international congresses.

Dodson began serving in Honors at LU as assistant director in 2004, was appointed director in 2008 and became interim dean in 2013. He was named dean of the college in 2014. He joined the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi under the ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Chapter #95 in 2004 and has remained active in its leadership, serving as a member, advisor and as president. He serves as Master of Ceremonies for the Annual Member Initiation Ceremony and as Dean of the Reaud Honors College continues in this role.
