Tokgoz awarded one-year research contract from U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory
Cagatay Tokgoz, assistant professor in the Phillip M. Drayer Department of Electrical Engineering at ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ, was awarded a one-year research contract in the amount of $83,472 from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to conduct research in computational electromagnetics.
Tokgoz is one of a limited number of researchers in the nation whose expertise resides in high frequency asymptotic techniques in computational electromagnetics. Under this contract, he will work to develop state-of-the-art computational tools that integrate into those being developed at AFRL.
“I anticipate the Department of Defense (DoD) will greatly benefit from these capabilities as part of futuristic tools that will enable and push the boundaries for high frequency simulations of large scale problems, and will help reduce costly antenna measurements,” said Tokgoz.
Tokgoz contacted a program manager at AFRL in 2016 soon after joining ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ. He presented his research at AFRL upon invitation, was subsequently awarded a faculty fellowship and then spent the summer of 2017 conducting research at AFRL Sensors Directorate, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH. His success during the fellowship paved the way for this new contract with strong potential for future research.
Tokgoz holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Ohio State University. Before joining ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ, he served as a principal investigator for multiple government funded research contracts from various DoD agencies and NASA while working for Applied EM, Inc. and later for United Technologies Research Center.
