LU alumnus named “Young Engineer of the Year”
The Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Sabine Chapter, has named ɫƵ’s alumnus Keith Zotzky, “Young Engineer of the Year.” Zotzky was honored during the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) banquet, Thurs., Feb. 21 at the Neches Room on Crockett Street.
Each year the TSPE Sabine Chapter accepts nominations for “Young Engineer of the Year” and selects finalists based on experience, published works, involvement in the community and professional organizations.
“I was really surprised by the honor,” said Zotzky. “I just do my best to make sure my clients and bosses stay happy by keeping projects on schedule, on deadline and on budget.”
Zotzky, a professional engineer, who works as a staff engineer for Arceneaux Wilson & Cole, LLC, a civil engineering firm located in Port Arthur, is responsible for drainage designs, land development and water and sewer design as well as pipeline designs.
A 2011 graduate, Zotzky says he comes from a long line of “Aggie engineers,” but decided LU was a better fit for him. “I was supposed to be an Aggie, wanted to be an Aggie, but the smaller class size and the more hands on and face-to-face instruction was a better fit for me and my personality.”
Currently, TSPE-Sabine Chapter’s treasurer, Zotzky has served as the organization’s secretary and enjoys not only the professional relationships he’s developed but the organization’s mission. “TSPE promotes the knowledge and wealth of the engineering profession and makes sure that it (the profession) stays safe and protected throughout the United States,” said Zotzky. “I love being an engineer and being able to see impacts and changes be made for the better.”
