College admissions representative receives top award
The Texas Association for College Admission Counseling has named ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ Regional Admissions Representative Bridget Adiukwu the 2019 Rising Star.
The award honors individuals who have five years or less experience with TACAC but who have given outstanding service to the organization.
“I received this award based on my volunteer work within the Texas Association for College Admissions Counseling,” said Adiukwu. “I received a grant opportunity to participate as a conference fellow four years ago. I am a firm believer in being a forever learner, so I continued to work to provide professional development for others. Last year, I was asked to join the executive board as the Inclusion, Access and Success Co-Chair.”
Adiukwu has served ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ as a regional admissions counselor in the Houston area for the last five years. “My favorite part of the job is helping students decide if LU is best for them and being part of the LU Recruitment and Admissions team,” said Adiukwu.
Tony Sarda, LU director of recruitment, said Adiukwu is professionally talented and an incredible advocate of ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ and the education the university offers.
“Bridget regularly goes above and beyond for students and exemplifies what is best about LU. She is well known for her tenacity, desire to always learn and has a keen ability to motivate students to better their lives through education,” said Sarda.
Sarda believes Bridget is most deserving of the Rising Star award because of her leadership at both LU and TACAC. “She is considered an emerging leader in our profession, and we are thankful to count her as an integral member of our team,” said Sarda. “She does invaluable work on behalf of ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ and in great organizations, like TACAC.”
At an award’s ceremony in the spring, Past President of TACAC Angelica Melendez, recognized Adiukwu for her leadership likening her to a super hero.
“This year’s awardee has been described as innovative, professional, an advocate and is a champion for students. Further, they maximize every opportunity presented with grace and humility,” said Melendez, who is the College and Financial Aid Specialist for South San Antonio High School. “This wonder woman is the outcome of what the fellow’s program can do for a new professional. From a fellow to committee chair to executive board member, she has created new unique initiatives to further the mission of TACAC.”
TACAC promotes access to post-secondary education for all Texans, provides professional continuing education opportunities for its members and supports ethical practices concerning student rights and the college admission process, among several other functions.
