Texas Academy Spring Open House 2020

The Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities at ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ will host an Open House on Sat., Feb. 22 at the Mary and John Gray Library.

The Academy is an early entrance college residential honors program that gives high school aged juniors and Student Lifeseniors the opportunity to accumulate 60 or more hours of college credit by graduation. Check-in for the open house begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at noon. The Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall will provide lunch and the event concludes at 2 p.m.

The open house will present prospective students with details on academics and social life at TALH, residence hall living and security, financial aid and the benefits of a TALH education. According to TALH Assistant Director Scott Stevenson, the open house is a great opportunity for students and their parents to get first-hand information about the program from previous TALH students.

“TALH students are integrated into ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ classes alongside traditional students and thus are held to the standards of a university classroom,” said Stevenson. “They have opportunities to work closely with faculty on their research projects and experience for the first time the ‘academic life.’ The overall experience fosters independence and student responsibility for their own learning.”

Students accepted into the program also receive full-tuition scholarships for up to 15-credit hours per semester and get to live on campus like any other college student.

TALH students partake in a studious university experience, while pursuing ideals of academic excellence, ethical leadership and community service. TALH uses the humanities to develop empathetic, critical thinkers who work actively to create a better environment.
