¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ College of Engineering to hold Senior Design Project virtually

¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ College of Engineering will host its annual Senior Design Symposium on Fri., May 1 from 3-5 p.m. Due to social-distancing restrictions, the symposium will be held virtually, with all presentations available seniorgearsto view on the LU College of Engineering website. A virtual awards presentation will take place at 4 p.m.

"Senior Design or capstone projects are one of the most important aspects of undergraduate activity for ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ engineering students,” said Dr. Brian Craig, dean of the ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ College of Engineering.  “Most students enroll in the senior design courses during their senior year and participate in team-based or individual design of a system or component related to their major field of study. Capstone activities include requirements, data gathering, specification development, technical design of multiple alternative solutions, statistical analysis, economic analysis and troubleshooting, oral presentations and written reports.”

Senior Design teams are mentored by a faculty member and often in conjunction with an industry advisor. Their projects are judged at the end of the semester by their department faculty, and then by outside industry judges who choose the overall college winner. Department and overall winners receive cash prizes.

Senior Design Symposium will go live for viewers at www.lamar.edu/seniordesignsymposium on Fri., May 1 and a link will be available to watch the awards ceremony at 4 p.m.
